Chapter 2 Starting Nutrition Assistant & Using Menu's

How to "run"/"use" the Nutrition Assistant?

The Nutrition Assistant's screens are accessed from one of two menus (see below). To get to the menus, select the "Nutr'nAsst" icon reference by "A" in figure 2.1. You get to the palm "applications screen" below by using the "Application" icon (the "House") down by the graffiti writing area. If the Nutrition Assistant icon is not visible when you bring up the palm application screen be sure that the "All" list is showing in the upper right corner.

Exiting the Nutrition Assistant
You exit the Nutrition Assistant by:
1) Selecting any other of the fixed icons to the left or right of the graffiti area (except for the calculator)
Or by:
2) Pressing one of the fixed buttons at the bottom of your palm device.
NOTE!! Exiting from Nutrition Assistant as described above will cause the temporary values for height, weight, Bee, fluids, age, etc that you entered to be reset to blank or zero. To avoid losing current patient's data in this way, select the "Save" button on the main Nutrition Assistant menu before "exiting" the Nutrition Assistant. See the following section on saving the current assessment data.

Saving "Current" Assessment Data

You can "save" the current person's assessment by tapping the "Save" button on the Nutrition Assistant's main
menu or by tapping the "Save/Recall" button on the "Set Up Person" screen. This will bring up the "Save/Recall
Data" screen (see below).

How to Use This Screen:
[A]: Data List The list shows the data which is currently stored in the save record.
[B]: Save button. Tap this button and data currently saved will be replaced by the current assessment data. This newly saved record is saved until it is replaced by a new save.
[C]: Recall button. Tap this button and saved data will be loaded through out NA and ready for further review or calculation.
[D]: "OK" button Tap this button to close this screen and return to the main menu.

Saving/Synchronizing Data (Palm to PC)
The "Save/Recall Data" screen described above is for "saving" a single person's data on the palm from one session/use to the next. The following describes the more general case of saving customization changes you have made to the Nutrition Assistant to your PC.

What data can be saved to the PC.
Certain types of data are saved and can be uploaded ("backed up to" / "synched" / "saved") to/with your PC. This data includes, for example, the tube feeding/enteral database, the pediatric formulas, renal and food exchange patterns.
