Chapter 4 Doing a Sample Assessment
____________________________________________________________________________________________

Two Different Approaches/Strategies

Doing an assessment involves a series of calculations/assessments. With the Nutrition Assistant you do can do
assessments using a number of different approaches:

1) Jump Around Approach. This approach is to select each assessment screen in the order you wish from the menus. Use the screen then return to the menu using the ButtonMenu.bmp (114 bytes) button at the top of the screen and select another screen from the menu, use it, return to the menu, select another, etc. Note that data entered or calculated on one screen will automatically fill in on a subsequent screen. Thus if you enter height  on one screen (a) and jump to another screen (b) which has height as one of its fields then the height data will automatically appear in height field on screen (b). This greatly speeds up the use of the system and minimizes errors.

2) Sequential Series Approach. The second approach uses a Nutrition Assistant feature that allows for
stepping from one screen to another without returning to a menu. A series of screens can be done "in order" by using the forward chevron button ButtonForeArrow.bmp (114 bytes) displayed in the upper right corner of each major screen to jump to the next screen. The default sequence (when you initially load N.A.) does the following screens in order.

"Person/Start" (usually with a detour to the "Age from Birthdate" screen. before going on to the IBW/BMI screen)
v (after completing the "Person/Start" screen tap the ButtonForeArrow.bmp (114 bytes) button to go to the "IBW / BMI" screen.)
"IBW / BMI"
v (after completing the "IBW / BMI" screen tap the ButtonForeArrow.bmp (114 bytes) button to go to the "Weight Chge %" screen.)
"Weight Chge %"
v (after completing the "Weight Chge %" screen tap the ButtonForeArrow.bmp (114 bytes) button to go to the "BEE / Energy" screen.)
"BEE / Energy"
v (after completing the "BEE / Energy" screen tap the ButtonForeArrow.bmp (114 bytes) button to go to the "Protein Needs" screen.)
"Protein Needs"
v (after completing the "Protein Needs" screen tap the ButtonForeArrow.bmp (114 bytes) button to go to the "Fluid Needs" screen.)
"Fluid Needs"
v (after completing the "Fluid Needs" screen tap the ButtonForeArrow.bmp (114 bytes) or the ButtonMenu.bmp (114 bytes) button to go to the "Main Menu" screen.)
Back to Main Menu (Where you can  do other functions (i.e. enteral, TPN, etc)

See the six screens shown below for a visual representation of this concept.

Na_SixScreen2.bmp (27710 bytes)

Note: You may customize the sequence of screens that you want to follow. See the chapter on
"AutoForward/AF" for information customizing the screen sequence.
